Abstract

AbstractAs a major transit priority measure, exclusive bus lanes (EBLs) have been recognized as a key measure to alleviate traffic congestion. This paper build a multi-modal network stochastic user equilibrium (MSUE) model considering the usage and evaluation of EBLs in the road network with three travel modes: carpooling, solo driving and bus. Two policies are proposed: (1) EBLs can only be used by bus; (2) EBLs can be used by both bus and carpooling modes. Specifically, the multinomial logit (MNL) model is used to mode choice and the path-size-correct logit model (PSCL) is adopted to route choice. The MNL-PSCL MSUE model is formulated based mathematical programming (MP) problem. The Method of successive algorithm (MSA) is applied to solve the model efficiently. Numerical example results show that the MNL-PSCL MSUE has potential to handle the path overlapping problem, in addition, EBLs used by carpooling can decrease total travel time and it is feasibly that carpooling use EBLs properly.KeywordsExclusive bus lanesCarpoolingPath size correction logit modelMulti-modal network stochastic equilibrium model
