Abstract

Anthropogenic activities are considered as major threat to coastal wetlands. Much of anthropogenic activities are changing coastal wetland ecosystem globally. Coastal wetlands are known to provide various benefits to people. However, the impacts on coastal wetland ecosystem will greatly affect the services. Thus the future of coastal wetlands is uncertain, challenging to understand the concept of resilience that will enable the coastal wetland ecosystems to adapt and respond to stresses that will enable the ecosystem to retain the functions as to provide the services that are beneficial for the coastal community in reducing the risk exposure. The focus of paper is to understand and analyze the concept of resilience of coastal wetland ecosystems. An attempt has been made to under the linkages between coastal resilience and coastal wetland ecosystem service. The principle findings of the paper reveals that resilience based strategies should be considered in addressing the multiple issues of the coastal wetland ecosystem in providing multiple services and benefits.
