Abstract
Harley A. Rotbart, M.D., received his medical degree from Cornell University Medical College in 1979 and did his internship and residency in pediatrics at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia from 1979 to 1982. In 1982, he returned to his hometown of Denver for a fellowship in Pediatric Infectious Disease at the University of Colorado and the Children’s Hospital of Denver, where his interest in enteroviruses began. In 1996, he became a full professor in the Department of Pediatrics. He became vice-chairman of Pediatrics in 1997. Dr. Rotbart is also a professor in the Department of Microbiology and the co-director of the Clinical Trials Organization at the Children’s Hospital of Denver. He has been the recipient of numerous honors, among which include awards from the National Institutes of Health, the National Foundation for Infectious Diseases, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, and the Society for Pediatric Research. Dr. Rotbart has been listed as one of the “Best Doctors in America” since 1996. He is the sole or co-author of more than 150 research papers, book chapters, abstracts, and other publications. His 1995 book, Human Enterovirus Infections, summarized the state of the art in this field. Dr. Rotbart lives with his wife and three children in Denver. They “collect” national parks by the RV route. His leisure time interests revolve around little league, school plays, and car pool.
