Abstract
Given the current push toward the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preparation for registered nurses, a significant proportion of students choose the Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) prelicensure nursing education. This descriptive qualitative study seeks to provide insight into enrollment decisions of ADN nursing students, including their initial decision to pursue nursing, their understanding of the benefits of earning a BSN, and their plans toward future BSN completion. Ultimately, nontraditional student status exerted a compelling influence regarding the decision to choose ADN prelicensure preparation.
