Abstract

        The article highlights that reading literature without frequent use of dictionary is mostly the aim of any foreign language learner, as long as it violates the logical flow of thoughts. In the article we discuss some important issues of teaching passive vocabulary. The article states that it is important to pay attention to these points: First one is accumulation of passive words and second teaching reading without a dictionary.  The purpose of the article is to draw up a plan for teaching passive vocabulary. The article emphasizes that the course should consist of three parts: 1. Teaching the method of memorizing the passive vocabulary. 2. Teaching to understand the active vocabulary.  3. Teaching to understand the passive vocabulary. The article offers two basic principles of grouping vocabulary units: 1. Only by meaning, which involves the organization of vocabulary units according to associative, autonomic and thematic signs. 2. According to the linguistic properties of vocabulary units and meaning. The article highlights that the main task of teaching to understand passive vocabulary is to teach students to arrange thoughts while reading a text. The proposed plan for teaching passive vocabulary discussed in the article naturally finds its expression in the system of exercises that teach passive vocabulary.
