Abstract

The reviewer feels problems with coverage and conceptualization prevent 'Understanding Parallel Supercomputing' by R. Michael Hord from reaching its ambitious goal of being a "thorough introductory review." Still, readers needing a concise description of a particular parallel machine or software package will find it useful. The book's problems arise from packaging the author's experience as another entry in the crowded field of parallel computer surveys. The author would have been better served by a book directly focused on the technical and managerial lessons he gained from his extensive experience with diverse parallel architectures and application domains. Such a book would be geared to a smaller audience but could be uniquely informative
