Abstract

Current trend in higher learning instruction is evolving from the traditional lecture method to more engaging methodologies such as service learning, transformational approaches in learning such as active-learning, cooperative learning, dialogue-based learning, dramaturgical teaching methods, and many other innovations which focus on the active engagement of students in the teaching and learning process. In this light, this paper seeks to highlight the efficacy of the instructors' servant leadership and transformational leadership teaching styles to students' engagement in higher learning. To accomplish this endeavor, 1) I share by brief personal experience of the notion of a self-responsible leader as a servant-leader; 2) define a servant-leader in servant leadership and review recent studies on servant leadership; 3) explain dramaturgy in servant leadership; 4) define transformational leadership and review research studies on transformational leadership; 5) explain dramaturgy in transformational leadership, and draw my conclusion on the topic.
