Ahluwalia while inaugurating the SAIS symposium on the politics of India's next generation of reforms, held in Washington, DC, on May 17, 2004. At that time Mr. Ahluwalia was the Director of the Independent Evaluation Office of the International Monetary Fund. He subsequently returned to India and is currently serving as the Deputy Chairman of India's Planning Commission.
