Abstract

A coupled-channel Schrödinger equation model has been used to interpret the results of an experimental decomposition of the photoabsorption spectrum of O 2, covering the wavelength range from 1150 Å to 1750 Å. The model demonstrates that the main features of the spectrum, including many irregularities, arise from Rydberg-valence interactions.
