Abstract

Lorentz transmission electron microscopy (LTEM) is frequently used to image magnetic induction maps of topological magnetic spin structures. These induction maps are visually intuitive, but can be misinterpreted for materials in which the magnetization differs greatly from the integrated induction, leading to ambiguous determination of spin structures. The authors present PyLorentz, their open-source software for simulating LTEM images from three-dimensional micromagnetic simulations. By applying the technique to N\'eel skyrmions, they demonstrate that combining simulated and experimental LTEM images gives a more complete picture of complex spin structures.
