Abstract

A background to deaerator cracking is given in the form of operational considerations, crack extension characteristics and the possible mechanisms involved in this particular cracking phenomenon. The reader is then introduced to modern day advances and concepts of environmental assisted crack (EAC) extension behaviour, which has been developed in the nuclear engineering field over the past, almost two, decades. Such modern day EAC concepts are considered and have been applied to the area of crack extension in feed water deaerator systems and this has resulted in a sophisticated electrochemical approach to this particular problem.
