Abstract

Many Maryland livestock producers may wonder when is a fence required and what condition should that fence be in according to Maryland law. The question can be confusing at times since Maryland has not adopted specific statutes that relate to fencing. This paper provides an overview of common law fencing rules as found in Maryland. The paper also looks at ways for two landowners to bound themselves and successors in keeping up a division fence.
