Abstract

A semianalytical method for the simulation of inherent electromechanical oscillations in power grids is presented. Applied to grids of different sizes, basic structures and operating conditions are derived that can yield inter-area oscillations with a negative damping. Via a linearisation the corresponding eigenvalues are obtained, partly having positive real parts. Finally, undamped inter-area oscillations are obtained and it is shown by an analytical statement that they are a consistent solution of the electromechanical differential equation system.
