Abstract

Abstract Ten collaborators participated in a study of the analysis of uncombined intermediates in FD&C Yellow No. 6; each collaborator analyzed 4 samples. The intermediates were separated by column chromatography and quanti-tated by ultraviolet spectrometry. Sulfanilic acid, Schaeffer’s salt, and 6,6‚-oxybis(2-naphthalenesulfonic acid) were recovered at an average level of 95% of the amounts added. Between- laboratory standard deviations ranged from 0.01 to 0.20% when the intermediates were present at levels of 0.02 to 1.47%. The method has been adopted as official first action.
