Abstract
Uncertainty regarding size of cell population and rate of cell duplication is taken into account in a model which describes quantitatively the experimental induction of cancer by ultraviolet radiation. Quantitative relationships indicate that overall cell population growth is governed by feedback control of metabolite supply. Application of the model to other kinds of carcinogen, design of experiments, and implications regarding cancer mechanisms are considered.
