Abstract

This is a complete overview about the convicted women through Spanish history. Focusing in the analysis of four determinant events: the inequality existing in the imposition of the sentences, the development of the female delinquency theories, the creation of institutions such as Las Galeras, Las Casas de Misericordia and the reformatory homes, finalising with Concepcion Arenal and Victoria Kent as two of the most important figures in the feminist penitentiary thinking. This is a walk through the social and legal perspective of the female delinquency that takes us to the present day, carrying within the androcentric point of view found nowadays when approaching the peninteciary system.
