Abstract

This paper presents a new interpretation of the Lullian image of the lover and the beloved. It is based on the analysis of the image through the whole Ramon Llull's opus. It examines the diachrony of its evolution during thirty years and twenty-three books, from the  Liber contemplationis  (1273-74) to the  Ars brevis  (1308). This analysis, undertaken out of our preparation of a conceptually lemmatised database (the Corpus Digital d’Amic i Amat , CDAIA ), suggests a new interpretation of the meaning of this image in Llull’s production and thought. Firstly, the lexicalization of the loved-beloved image as a metaphor and its ontological meaning is described. Secondly, the fiction plotline constructed during this evolution is analysed. Thirdly, the loved-beloved image is interpreted as an  exemplum  for its symbolic value. This metaphor works as a tool to transmit Llull’s project for a spiritual renovation, based on the Ars Lulliana .
