Abstract

In the first edition of Bartolomé José Gallardo’s Diccionario crítico-burlesco (1811) there is a double printing of the text, with an important modification in the tale of the young groom, which closes the «alma» entry. We think that this variant of the text responds to an episode of self-censorship on the part of the author, who thus eliminates the mixture of the sacred and the profane, within the burlesque sphere of the horns, which betray the image of the dishonoured husband. A necessary correction to overcome the moral and religious censorship of the time raising some bibliographical problems related to that first edition.
