Abstract
El presente trabajo tiene como fin realizar un primer acercamiento a la labor política y militar del caudillo liberal cubano José Miguel Gómez en el período comprendido entre 1898-1901, a partir de los documentos revisados en archivos y la prensa de la época. También se hace un análisis del nivel de aceptación y crítica al que se enfrenta, sobre todo a partir de la fundación del Partido Republicano Federal de Las Villas y sus años como Gobernador Provincial; hay además referencias en el trabajo a la labor que realiza a favor de la Enmienda Platt en la Constituyente de 1901.
