Abstract
The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) is a global leader in the fight against drugs, crime and terrorism, which remain three of the greatest threats to the peace, security and well-being of humanity. UNODC operates in all regions of the world through an extensive network of field offices and relies on voluntary contributions, mainly from governments. The three pillars of the UNODC work programme are: 1) an operational response made possible by the political ownership of the states concerned; 2) research and analytical work to increase knowledge and understanding of drugs and crime issues an ensure that policy is evidence-based; and 3) a strong legal framework that helps states fight drugs, crime and terrorism according to the rule of law.The United Nations Information Service (UNIS) Vienna is responsible for the public relations work of the United Nations offices and for the Visitors Service.
