Abstract

This study provides an empirical and correlation test of a descriptive model on the geography of robbery in the Mexico Valley Metropolitan Zone (ZMVM). It includes a review of previous studies in crime geography and a description of the spatial variation of the social composition of the metropolis. The test of the model offers either same, different, and/or new findings to the previous studies. Also, the model provides different results when applied to the federal district and conurbated area sections of the metropolis, thus suggesting a pattern of spatial heterogeneity for this type of crime and the presence of ad-hoc contextual explanations for each section of the metropolis.
