Abstract

With the very fast evolution of mini- and microcomputers, the problem of software portability has become very important. The λ-machine has been designed and implemented for a complete portability of system programs. It especially allows the realization of operating systems common to different machines. The λ-machine is examined in detail; in particular, its basic language is studied; five implementations have been already realized.
