Abstract

The place of women in the political debates about Scottish autonomy is an old and recurrent issue. During the national debate which took place before the referendum on Scottish independence of September 2014, the issue of the attitudes of women towards Scotland’s constitutional future found a new echo in the media, with opinion polls and surveys all reporting a weaker mobilisation of Scottish women in favour of the independence project. The aim of this article in to analyse the gender gap, by questioning its roots and the way this political and social debate has been recently carried on within the media and academic circles.
