Abstract
The surgical ciliated cyst (SCC) usually occurs as a late complication after surgical intervention performed in the maxillary sinus where the voluntary breakup of the sinus membrane is accomplished by means of osteotomy. Then there is the entrapment of this membrane, leading to formation of a cystic lesion. It affects almost exclusively Asian patients. This article reports a rare case of SCC, which affected a patient african descent, after extraction of upper second molar, without disruption of the scheinederian membrane. The radiographic and histological features of the lesion were similar to those found in the literature. Treatment options are described in the literature: enucleation, marsupialization or even osteotomie Le Fort I, followed by primary closure. The selection criteria are based on location, size and aggressiveness of the lesion. In our case, enucleation was the treatment of choice and no recurrence was observed.
