Abstract

In order to contribute to understand an important moment of history of teaching children’s literature on elementary teacher education courses in Brazil, one presents results about the textual configuration analysis of Compendio de literatura infantil: para o 3o ano normal (1959), by Barbara Vasconcelos de Carvalho (1915 -2008). The results from this analysis have led to comprise that this teaching manual was the first published in Brazil and in it have a set of knowledge related to children’s literature considered necessary to the elementary teacher education, that it was gradually structured according to the official programs of teaching, contributing to the constitution of children’s literature as school subjects on elementary teachers education courses in Brazil.
