Abstract

An ultra-wideband power splitting/combining technique using left-handed (LH) transmission lines is presented in this paper. For lossless transmission lines, the power splitting/combining efficiency is basically lies on the equilibrium of the phases among branches. Unlike the composite right/left-handed (CRLH) transmission lines, the proposed left-handed transmission lines can support zero-degree wave propagation over an ultra-wide bandwidth of tens of gigahertz. Based on this kind of left-handed transmission lines, ultra-wideband power splitters/combiners are designed and validated by means of circuit simulations. A comparison between power splitting/combining techniques using left-handed transmission lines and composite right/left-handed transmission lines are also included.
