Abstract

We prepared Li2MgSiO4:xGd (0.01 ≤ x ≤ 0.11) ceramic using sol-gel method. The X-ray diffraction (XRD) data of the Li2MgSiO4:Gd powder exhibited characteristic patterns of the orthorhombic structure. From the Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) analysis, we confirmed the presence of functional groups. We investigated the variations in Gd concentrations on the photoluminescence (PL) properties of these samples and observed the dominant emission band at 314 nm, which corresponded to the characteristic transitions of Gd3+ when excited at 272 nm. The electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectra analyzed the symmetry between the dopant ion and ligand environment.
