Abstract
Ultraviolet photoelectron spectroscopy (UPS) was performed on Ni Mn based Heusler-type intermetallic compounds, including the mother material for the ferromagnetic shape memory. Although UPS is relatively surface-sensitive, it is useful to explore the compositional dependence of the electronic states. Significant changes in the band structure are found between Ni 2MnGa and Ni 2MnIn, that are interpreted in terms of the increase of the hybridization between the neighboring transition metal 3d states. An increase of the band filling is found in going from Ni 2MnIn to Ni 2MnSn, which is interpreted by the increase of the number of 5p electrons in changing from In to Sn.
