Abstract

This course is aimed mainly at medical professionals who regularly work in the field of breast disease, such as general surgical trainees with an interest in the breast; breast clinicians; radiographers; and general practitioners who do breast clinics. We did this course during our final year of surgical training. It is expected that the course will take six months to complete. There has been considerable debate about whether breast training should be separate from general surgical training. A recent statement from the ex-president of the Association of Breast Surgeons, Hugh Bishop, states that “unless trainee breast surgeons learn a lot more about breast imaging, particularly breast ultrasound, then they will rapidly be reduced to the status of a greeter in a new breast patient clinic.”1 We felt as surgeons that we would like to offer our patients a more holistic experience when they come to the breast clinic, rather than …
