Abstract

Five eyes harboring posterior uveal melanomas were examined before and one year after treatment with cobalt plaque radiotherapy. Post-operatively, B-scan ultrasonograms revealed a change in the tumor’s size and shape, a decrease in the area of echolucency within the tumor and the formation of new areas of echolucency within the sclera and orbital tissues. Standardized A-scan echograms showed an irregular acoustic structure, a higher reflectivity and wide orbital echoes. The average decrease in height was 37%.
