Abstract

This book includes 47 papers presented at the 5th Congress of the International Society for Ultrasonic Diagnosis in Ophthalmology (SIDUO V) held in Ghent, Belgium, in 1973. The contents are divided into sections of physics and technology, ocular diagnosis, orbital diagnosis, and biometry. The majority of papers are in English; some are in French and German. Despite the 1973 meeting date, the book represents a thorough up-to-date compendium of ophthalmic ultrasonography from the major workers in this field throughout the world. Techniques that have since become standard for A-scan, B-scan by water immersion and contact methods, and Doppler are described. Developmental techniques of isodensimetric processing are reported also. Tissue differential diagnosis was a primary concern on the meeting program. A large section is devoted to ultrasonic diagnostic criteria of ocular tumors and their high reliability documented in several large series.
