Abstract

Objective: Prostaglandin E1 (PGE1) is used as a vasodilator for the treatment of peripheral arterial stenotic disorders such as atherosclerosis and Buerger’s disease. PGE1 has also been found to act on hepatic blood flow in animal experiments and as a potential agent in the treatment of hepatic failure from various causes. However, no evaluation of its effect on human hepatic blood flow has been reported. For this purpose, we used high-performance ultrasound equipment to assess the intrahepatic blood flow in a liver transplant patient and compare it to that in atherosclerotic patients with normal liver.
