Abstract
Ultrasonic or supersonic waves have a frequency outside the range at which the human ear is capable of perceiving them as sound. The frequency of audible sound lies between sixteen and twenty thousand oscillations a second. Anything outside those figures is inaudible; ultrasound consists of frequencies above twenty thousand. The therapeutic use of ultrasonic waves is a relatively new branch of physical medicine.
