Abstract

The MHz internal friction technique has been shown to provide accurate measurements of the properties of defects produced by a low dose of electron radiation. In spite of the optimum conditions for avoiding complications due to multiple interstitial and multiple solute atom complexes, the multile peak structure of the data indicated that more than one defect configuration was present. This is in direct contrast with channeling measurements and the interpretation of Moessbauer effect measurements which indicated the defect trapping configuration was the <100> mixed dumbbell. Neither of the two existing models used in the interpretation of other experiments was capable of explaining the data. However, a third model incorporating the features of both is capable of accounting for the observed behavior.
