Abstract
Measurements of the cervical sound velocity were carried out with a new sound velocity probe. The design of the probe is described in detail in the paper. Using this probe the velocity in the cervices of 26 non-pregnant and 47 pregnant women was measured. The sound velocity in the non-pregnant cervix was 1633 ± 2.86 m/s versus 1625 ± 1.63 m/s in the pregnant (mean ± S.D.), p < 0.001.
