Abstract

Results are reported for the frequency-independent volume viscosity in N 2, CO, CH 4 and CD 4 at temperatures ranging from 77 to 300 K as determined from sound-absorption measurements. The closely related rotational relaxation times and the appropriate kinetic cross sections are derived.
