Abstract

A Fourier integral solution to the problem of compressional waves radiated into a semi-infinite fluid half space from an interdigital transducer at the piezoelectric solid-fluid interface is sketched out. The Fourier integral is evaluated asymptotically by the method of steepest descents. This leads to a clear understanding of the ultrasonic beam scanning by changing the frequency. Numerical results are obtained for a PZT ferroceramic material and compared with experimental ones.
