Abstract

The CERN LHC collider will operate with lead ions at s of 5.5 TeV/n. The ATLAS detector, designed to study high- p T physics in pp mode of the LHC, has potential to study ultraperipheral collisions of heavy ions in a wide spectrum of observables. The physics program includes study of production of electron and muon pairs; spectroscopy of single mesons; measurement of meson pairs and search for new states.
