Abstract

An ultraminiature pulsed periodic generator of powerful microwave pulses based on gas discharge, involving a hollow cathode, is developed and tested. The hollow cathode is presented by a cylindrical tube of 15-mm diameter and 15-mm height. The cavity was filled with air under 0.2-torr pressure. The periodic sequence of high-voltage pulses of 3.5-kV amplitude was sent onto gas-discharge gap. Coherent microwave pulses, featuring ~ 1-MW power and ~ 200-ns duration, were generated in a chamber from the frequency band Lp. The pulse repetition rate of 1 kHz was achieved in pulsed periodic mode with no noticeable degradation of microwave pulses.
