Abstract

In this paper, we proposed a stereo metamaterial with broadband radar cross section (RCS) reduction performance based on scattering cancellation. Unlike metasurfaces based on planar structures, this stereo metamaterial deployed standing metallic patches as the basic scattering elemetents. The super-cell units consisting of 3*3 arrays of standing patches with different sizes are random distributed in the metamaterials. The reflected electromagnetic (EM) wave of different super-cells can be cancelled by each other. Therefore, the metamaterial can efficiently reduce RCSs of metallic targets. The stereo metamaterial sample with optimized sizes was fabricated and measured. The measured −10dB RCS reduction band of the metamaterial with thickness of 6mm is from 7 to 25 GHz.
