Abstract

Japan Broadcasting Corporation (NHK) promotes research and development of Super Hi-Vision (SHV), an ultrahigh-definition TV system with 16 times the number of pixels of HDTV and with a 22.2 multichannel sound system. So far, three types of SHV displays have been developed, using liquid-crystal-on-silicon (LCOS) projection technologies. The three types are the pixel-offset method, the dual-modulation method, and the three-panel type. Development of these displays is described in detail in this paper.
