Abstract

An ultra-wideband low-loss transition for the substrate-integrated waveguide (SIW) to the substrate-integrated coaxial line (SICL) is investigated. An experimental prototype with a centre frequency of 25.7 GHz has been designed and fabricated by using the multi-layer printed circuit board process. The measured results show the good performance of the proposed SIW-to-SICL transition, including a wide bandwidth of 53% (18.9–32.5 GHz) with reflection coefficients <− 10 dB, and a small insertion loss of 0.1 dB at 25.7 GHz. The proposed transition can be a promising candidate for the integration of the SIW and the SICL components and circuits.
