Abstract

In this paper, a phase gradient metasurface (PGM) composed of unit cells having the capability of high-efficiency linear polarization conversion for the transmitted wave has been proposed to achieve ultra-wideband high-efficiency beam steering. It has been found that high-efficiency anomalous refraction and surface wave excitation can be achieved in 12.5–24 and 12–12.5 GHz, respectively. This can be clearly observed from the simulated electric field distributions at frequencies of 12.0 and 18 GHz. For a specific polarized incidence wave, the anomalous refraction intensity spectrum is simulated and experimentally measured. The measured intensity spectrum shows a good agreement with the simulated result. It is expected that the proposed PGM may have high potential applications in antenna beam shaping and broadband GHz imaging.
