Abstract

A novel printed monopole antenna for ultra-wideband applications with variable frequency band-notch characteristics is presented. The proposed antenna consists of a beveled shape rectangular patch with a novel trident-shaped feeding structure and a truncated ground plane which provides a wide usable fractional bandwidth of more than 125% (2.8–12.6 GHz). By inserting a semi-octagonal parasitic strip to the antenna, a frequency band-stop performance is achieved and the authors can control its characteristics such as band-notch frequency and its bandwidth. The designed antenna has a small size of 22×25 mm2 while showing the band rejection performance in the frequency band of 5.1–6 GHz.
