Abstract

A concerted effort to study a variety of slowspreading ocean ridges in remote, cold regions has resulted in the identification of a new category of ridge that is spreading even more slowly than the already‐dassified “slow‐spreading” ridges that are a well‐recognized component of ocean crustal formation processes. These research results offer a major change in thinking about the formation of the ocean crustal plates.
