Abstract

A comparative analysis of the two methods of contact lithotripsy was held in 41 patients with nephrolithiasis. Ultra-mini percutaneous nephrolithotripsy (Ultra-mini PСNL) was performed in the І group (19 patients) using sheath with outer diameter of 11Fr. Retrograde intrarenal surgery (RIRS) in the ІІ (22 patients). We can regard ultra-mini PСNL as safe, mini-invasive, effective procedure in management of renal calculi up to 2 cm in diameter. RIRS is the procedure of choice in patients with a JJ-stent previously installed due to obstruction because predilation of the ureter facilitates advancement of the ureteral access sheath. There was no significant difference in stone free rate between the groups, but ultra-mini PСNL is associated with shorter hospital stay, lower cost, shorter fluoroscopy time, greater postoperative hemoglobin drop. RIRS is accompanied by greater incidence of JJ-stent placement, less need for pain medication in postoperative period.
