Abstract
To achieve cleaner emissions, the ultra-lean premixed flames of 80 %H2–20 %CH4–air with the coupling effect of flow and heat recirculation were experimentally investigated. The flame behaviors for various Re values are observed and discussed in detail. The conventional stable flame, stable wedge-shaped residual flame, and wedge-shaped residual flame with upward and downward oscillations appeared in sequence as the equivalence ratio decreased. For a stable wedge-shaped residual flame with a decreasing Re value, the operating range broadens first and then narrows. By contrast, the operating range of the wedge-shaped residual flame with oscillations narrowed monotonically and slightly. With a decreasing Re value, the resident location of the conventional stable flame base remained nearly the same. When the equivalence ratio was reduced further, a stable wedge-shaped residual flame appeared. Subsequently, a wedge-shaped residual flame with oscillation occurred when the equivalence ratio was further reduced. Finally, the blow-off mechanisms were revealed.
