Abstract

A coating with ultra-heat resistant, adhesive and anticorrosive properties made of poly(dimethylsiloxane) (PDMS), furan and meso-porous SiO2 (SBA-15) was studied. Adding SBA-15 into PDMS/furan provided excellent adhesive properties while hardly changing the thermal stability. PDMS/furan/SBA-15 had first level adhesive property which was superior to that of pure PDMS/furan coating (third level). The surface changed from hydrophilic to hydrophobic and then to superhydrophobic with increasing content of SBA-15, due to the micro-nano structures provided by SBA-15. The corrosion resistances of PDMS/furan/SBA-15 coating in acidic and salty environments were both augmented compared with those of PDMS/furan coating. The impedance of coating in 3.5% NaCl solution increased with rising content of SBA-15, which was 1.62 × 106 Ω cm2 for PDMS/furan and 1.27 × 106 Ω cm2 for PDMS/furan/SBA-15 (14%). This was primarily caused by the barrier structures exposed by SBA-15, also being the main mechanism for the improved anticorrosive properties of PDMS/furan/SBA-15. After washing with water, the coating wettability was recovered to the original one after immersion in NaCl solution. In conclusion, this coating may be applicable to the marine field.
