Abstract

In this paper we propose a novel design of all optical NOT, OR and XOR logic gates in a non-channel photonic crystal. The proposed logic gates utilize self-collimation effect and splitting mechanism of line defects to control the light signal. The incident self collimated beams at line defect are partially transmitted and partially reflected with a phase lag. The reflected and transmitted input beams are interfered constructively or destructively to obtain the required logic outputs. Two dimensional Finite Difference Time Domain (FDTD) method is used to investigate the operation of the logic gates. Proposed design may find applications in the areas including ultra-compact optical computers and photonic integrated circuits.
