Abstract
Discussions 175 The authors present results of undrained tests on undisturbed in situ frozen and reconstituted specimens of sand from the Massey site. This work was carried out as a part of the CANLEX project, in which UBC was also a major participant in the area of laboratory testing. A comprehensive series of undrained static and cyclic tests were also per formed at UBC on frozen Massey sand specimens trimmed to size at the University of Alberta from the same frozen cores. In addition, UBC carried out a large number of tests on frozen sands from the Kidd site and the Syncrude tailings dam. Previously, an extensive program of laboratory triaxial and simple shear tests on in situ frozen sands specimens from the foundations of Duncan Dam in B.C. was undertaken in the UBC geotechnical research laboratories in 1992 (B.C. Hydro 1993) at the request of B.C. Hydro and Power Authority.
